WEDA Annual Events
Basic Economic Development Course
Generally held in May, the BEDC is designed to provide an understanding of the basic concepts, theories, methods and practice of economic development and is taught by many of Wisconsin’s top economic development professionals. Additionally, graduation from the Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) fulfills one of the prerequisites for those who wish to pursue the Certified Economic Developer Designation (CEcD) through the International Economic Development Council.
Community & Economic Development Awards (CEDA)
This exciting luncheon at our Fall Best Practices Conference celebrates economic development across Wisconsin. An independent panel of CEDA judges consider projects, small to large, rural, suburban and urban. The emphasis is placed on the economic impact each project has on its respective community or region. The CEDA Awards recognize projects, businesses, and organizations that are making exceptional contributions to advance economic growth and prosperity in Wisconsin.
Fall Best Practices Conference
Held each fall at a different location in the state, this conference provides attendees with an opportunity to dive into the fundamentals of economic development and the leading issues of the day, including technology advancements, entrepreneurship, talent attraction; business expansion and retention; and redevelopment and revitalization opportunities.
In addition to a wealth of networking opportunities, dynamic speakers, and continuing education credit certifications (EDFP, CEcD and AICP), the Best Practices Conference includes the Community and Economic Development Awards (CEDA) Luncheon.
Governor’s Conference
The Governor’s Conference on Economic Development is WEDA’s largest educational and networking event of the year. Scheduled for January or February in either the Milwaukee or Madison area, the conference focuses on a theme based around happenings in economic development over the past few years. The packed agenda includes lots of networking, a trade show, keynotes, breakouts and something for everyone as we focus on advancing economic growth for communities of all sizes in rural and urban Wisconsin.
Governor’s Conference Awards
The Governor’s Conference Awards, aims to recognize excellence seen throughout the year not only in individuals but also in organizations. The Andy Lisak Young Professional Award and Outstanding Organization Award are presented each year giving well-deserved recognition of effort and accomplishments.
Legislative Day
This member-only, FREE one-day spring event provides WEDA members with a unique opportunity to build relationships with state lawmakers and educate them on critical issues impacting Wisconsin’s economic development professionals and communities across the state. WEDA’s Legislative Day allows participants to network with WEDA colleagues, hear from key policymakers and other speakers, and participate in in-depth policy briefings and advocacy training.
