This course will provide attendees with a discussion of factors impacting the design and affordability of housing units and approaches communities can use to reduce costs.  Program options and techniques for assisting residents to purchase homes will be explored.  The course will also include information on resources for the rehabilitation of existing homes.  Wisconsin community examples will be featured. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the webinar.

Through this course, attendees will learn:

  • Understanding of costs related to single family residential investment
  • Options for spurring new development and ownership opportunities, such as down payment assistance, first time home buyer program savings accounts, public investment in infrastructure, and employer assistance
  • Resources for rehabilitation of existing homes

Kurt has over 40 years of experience at Vierbicher serving as a Community Development Consultant to Wisconsin municipalities. He is a Principal of Vierbicher and serves as the Chairman of the Board, Manager of Vierbicher’s Reedsburg and Prairie du Chien Offices, and is also the Director of Business Development.

Kurt has extensive experience with planning and implementation of community development programs with particular emphasis on economic development, affordable housing, capital improvements planning, grant writing and tax incremental financing. He has assisted communities obtain over $85 million in grant dollars and created and/or amended over 120 Tax Increment Districts.

Nicole Solheim, Executive Director, Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development

Nicole Solheim serves as Executive Director for the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development. Nicole has extensive experience in real estate, affordable housing, and community development. Prior to joining the Partnership, she worked as a Director of Development for a national affordable housing firm. Nicole has worked on 20+ closings totaling over $300 million in development.  She also worked for a commercial real estate development firm and for an economic development nonprofit organization in Madison, Wisconsin. Ms. Solheim has a BBA in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development is committed to housing for everyone because it’s essential for building healthy communities.
