State of the Association: WEDA President & CEO Melissa Hunt

Hello WEDA Members and Stakeholders,

Across Wisconsin, the energy around economic development is unmistakable as we close out WEDA’s milestone 50th year. As we embark on our 51st, I’m inspired by the progress, partnerships, and momentum that continue to drive our state forward. From regional partner visits to ED 101 trainings and member meet-ups, one thing is clear: Wisconsin’s economic development community shows up for one another and gets results.

I’ve been on the road quite a bit, Momentum West, Visions Northwest, Centergy, New North – and more stops are on deck. These conversations shape WEDA’s priorities and the programs we build for you. If we haven’t connected yet, consider this your open invitation: tell me what’s working, what isn’t, and where WEDA can add the most value in 2026.

We’re counting down to the Governor’s Conference in January in Middleton, WI. The conference will feature practical, forward-looking content designed for dealmakers and community builders alike. You’ll leave with new connections, fresh ideas, and tools you can use right away.

At the same time, we’re aligning on strategy for WEDA’s next phase of growth. Your feedback, through listening sessions and outreach discussions are helping to guide our work across our core pillars. You’ll see that focus reflected in our 2026 programming, partnerships, and communications.

WEDA is at its best when it reflects our members’ realities. What challenges are you facing right now? What tools or connections would unlock your next win? Send me a note with your ideas, speaker suggestions for upcoming events, or let’s schedule a call or a meeting. I’m eager to listen.

As we head into the holiday season, I hope you find time to rest, recharge, and celebrate the accomplishments of the past year. From all of us at WEDA, THANK YOU for your continued support and engagement. Have a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the new year ahead. Keep us posted on your community successes, we love to share your stories.

Thank you for everything you do for Wisconsin’s communities and economy. I’m proud of what we achieved in our 50th year, and I’m even more excited for what we’ll build together moving forward. See you in January, if not sooner!

Warm wishes~melissa
